Strategies for Improving Your Business English

You may be fluent in the English language; however, your Business English may not be up to scratch. Here are a few tips for improving your business English.

Set achievable goals:

You can attend weekend classes for this purpose. There are a lot of paid and free courses available online. They keep you posted with tips of the day and help you memorize new words.
Try to read at least one book every month because the more you read the better your vocabulary will become.
Try to learn a new word every day. You can even do this by opening the dictionary on any page.
Read business newspapers when you have free time. This will familiarize you with jargon and common business parlance.
Use an online grammar checker and online punctuation checker to familiarize yourself with the nuances of the language.

Make it a daily challenge:

While exchanging emails within the office avoid using colloquial language and make it a habit to write formally. This will be good practice for writing business emails.

Speak correct English:

Most of us tend to speak informally in our work surroundings as we get more and more comfortable in the workplace, but if you want to take business English seriously then you must start speaking it regularly.
Don’t use slang: There is a lot of slang that is recognized in the Oxford dictionary but the use of it should be avoided.  It is not professional to use slang or colloquial words.
